The Founder of Telegram, Helping ISIS Communicate

Pavel Durov is known as the Mark Zuckerburg of Russsia. Durov is the founder of an app used for communication called Telegram. Telegram uses two layers of encryption, which makes it faster and more secure for ISIS to communicate on. Laith Alkhouri, director of Research at Flashpoint Global Partners, called it "the new hot thing among jihadists." Pavel Durov, 31 also founded another popular Russia app, much like Facebook in Russia. Durov and his brother founded Telegram in 2013 because as he said in an interview, other text messaging apps “suck”.  When Telegram learned ISIS terrorists were communicating by their app, Telegram said “that it blocked 78 ISIS-related channels across 12 languages.”

This is interesting to me because Pavel Durov is more concerend about lack of privacy, than ISIS terrorists attacking. He founded Telegram for people to be able to communicate privately. When ISIS began using it, he didn’t shut it down, which makes me think that this isn’t a very good idea. If Pavel Durov is allowing ISIS to communicate using his top security app, is that safe?
