Can Hacking Nature Save Our Earth?

This story is so interesting, because we all know that pollution is a horrible problem! What if there was a way to take CO2 out of the air? Trees and plants do that all the time, but right now they are either being cut down or can’t keep up with all the CO2 we put in the air. Even though it sounds like a great plan, there are flaws.

1. It would cost a LOT of money: who would fund the project?

2. Where would we put all the CO2?

There are a lot of pros, but there’s enough cons to be worried if this experiment goes wrong. Ever heard of the story of “Pandora’s Box”, this is a lot like it. When you first open the box (create the fake trees) all the evil (the cons) come out, but when you open it again hope comes out. ASU (Arizona State University) is working on bringing this dream of ours to life. Maybe one-day this won’t be something we have to be worried about!

What could we do with all the CO2? “Put the CO2 at the bottom of the ocean, but you have to be worried about the side effects” says Yale University geologist Donald Penman. We know that there are side effects, but I think we should keep our eyes on the prize. Once we take the CO2 out of the air, it will definitely help everyone! I think that this is a great way to improve our Earth. This will help us live happier and healthier life!
