App Replaces Waiters in Beijing, China

In a Chinese restaurant located in Beijing, China, diners are surprised to find that there are no waiters. The waiters have been replaced by technology! There is an app that diners can download. This app features the menu, where you click on your order(s), then a number is called out and your meal is done in roughly five minutes. The restaurant does this because “in a world where you are already not talking to people at the table, then why not eliminate the need to speak to a waiter, too”.

I thought this story was interesting because I’d never seen anything like that--a waiter being replaced by an app! But, no matter how cool, I highly disagree with it. I think that technology is destroying the need to talk to people and socialize, and destroying the need to speak to a waiter, is not helping. When going online, sure you can make many friend on Instagram, Facebook, and twitter, but when you come face-to-face with that person, it’s kind of awkward because you don’t really know that person, you only know their online profile. You never know what to say because of this. But, if you meet a friend without using technology, you do really know that person.
